Anne of Green Gables
by Lucy Maud Montgomery
Anne of Green Gables follows Anne Shirley, an imaginative and outspoken orphan who is unexpectedly sent to live with elderly siblings Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert on Prince Edward Island. The Cuthberts had expected a boy to help on their farm, but Anne’s arrival quickly transforms life at Green Gables. Bright, emotional and endlessly curious, Anne approaches the world with remarkable enthusiasm. Her adventures at school, friendships, rivalries and frequent mistakes gradually help her find a true sense of belonging. Lucy Maud Montgomery combines humour, warmth and vivid descriptions of nature in a story about family, identity and growing up. Anne’s optimism and distinctive personality have made the novel one of the most beloved classics of children’s literature.
